One of the most pronounced effects of steroid use among females is known as female steroid jaw. This jaw is a large, flat, rounded area on the upper front portion of the face similar to the male jaw and is present at least in four years of age on two thirds of the cases of females (5 – 6). The jaw area may go back down to the neck by the age of 7-8 years (6), anabolic-androgenic steroids drug class. The female jaw is actually the result of the combination of masculinization and feminization of the genitalia, and is therefore considered to be a genetic disorder. Because of this, the condition is usually not detected in girls younger than 16 years of age.
The purpose of this systematic review was to compare corticosteroid injections with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) injections for musculoskeletal pain. Data were collected from a cross‐sectional study that compared the effectiveness of 3 different corticosteroid injection regimens for musculoskeletal pain [3]. The study found that compared with non‐steroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs, those who received an NSAID (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen) injections for musculoskeletal pain suffered less pain and symptoms [3]. The study did not include the results of all trials conducted to date, however, which raises concern about the validity of the conclusions of the study. Furthermore, there are some limitations of the data collected. The participants of the cross‐sectional study were mainly Caucasian, and therefore, it remains to determine if these results will hold true in different racial and ethnic groups. However, in general, NSAIDs were widely prescribed for musculoskeletal pain, and the results of the included studies did not differ significantly from results collected from larger studies in other ethnic groups [20, 21, 26]. However, in conclusion, a number of trials in different ethnic populations have found that NSAID injections are ineffective for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain [20, 21–24]. However, the number of trials comparing non-steroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs with NSAIDs was small compared with more than 250 trials on this topic in the United States, Australia, England, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom [22, 25–29]. In this review, the effectiveness of NSAIDs (acetaminophen, ibuprot, paracetamol) compared to non‐steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs was assessed by using a combination of 2 systematic reviews and one meta‐analysis [30, 31]. Although there were a total of 39 trials comparing NSAIDs to non-steroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs, the results from all included studies showed no beneficial effects on pain. Effectiveness of NSAIDs in patients with low back pain As described by Reichenberg et al. [32], in 2 small studies, the effect of an acute NSAID for patients with low back pain was not found. However, this effect was not significant when using pooled data from a number of studies published in 1 language, and the same results were not found when comparing the pooled results from different studies [32, 33]. Further, in all these trials, the NSAID was administered for a short period of 2 to 24 weeks, and the analgesic efficacy was seen to be better in the patients with low back pain Related Article:
